iPads at the ready - PowerPoint slides now "interactive"

Earlier this year I was asked to do a short workshop with ESOL and Literacy/Numeracy tutors about using iPads in their classrooms.  I used this presentation, which contains animations, links behind images and normal weblinks. Now that it's on GoogleDrive with view permission and edit permission by invitation, I could share it with any tutor who wanted to see it and assist in the review of the free literacy and numeracy apps that I discovered and installed on the iPads we used.

It was easier on the day to get the feedback on the reviewing activity using a paper version of slide 10/11 (duplicated so I could do a "2 per page" full slide size printout), but this way I could pass it on to any tutor who wasn't able to attend the original workshop and still wanted to be involved.

I've been adding interactive text boxes into PowerPoint slides too, and now that I know I can use pens for Family learning with the ActivBoards at NG and B primary schools, I can capture learner input over PowerPoint slides or make use of ActivInspire pages for using/creating interactive activities.  All depends on schools/centres allowing Flash use... And me revising how to use ActivInspire!  I did their online training course last year but as I haven't used it since, it's all gone.

I am starting a new course next week, Beginners ICT E2 ESOL, and that will be with a SmartBoard (I believe) so I need to check if the Treaty Centre tutor PC has Flash installed.  That would make life much more colourful.

Using Quizlet for internet-related revision

After going to the e-Factor 2013 event and hearing about it,  I had a go with Quizlet and set up this short set of questions on internet risks.
Some of them have plain English descriptions, but on reviewing them I see that some used longer words and terms which may be unfamiliar or difficult.  I have now tried to edit them to be more accessible for ESOL learners, for example.

I've found this other one which I could recommend to learners, among the many with the subject of internet, as it seems to complement mine, giving some good basic vocabulary.   I can't edit these, of course, but I think they are simple enough for most people to grasp.

a new Dvolver film - introducing internet safety for kids

There seems to have been a problem accessing the link to the first dvolver I made, in my first post, so I've just done another. Hope it works this time.
 Safe online bear movie

There may be some issues with web permissions and Flash at the school, though.  If it does work, it'll be nice to let the kids make their own after we've looked at the internet safety resources, and point up some of the safety tips they have learnt.

Pictures inspiring words!

Looking for things to do with the kids in the Family ICT sessions I'll be doing in next few weeks, I followed Martin's links to the iLearn Tech blog and the list of storytelling tools.  Investigated and signed up for Storybird, www.storybird.com although my mind was completely blank when it came to putting words to one of the beautiful pictures on there.  Another time maybe.

Then PicLits - again, some lovely and off-the-wall imagery to make short poems, comments, or just single words that the pictures make you say. Choose from drag& drop word lists or write your own.  Here's one I did.  Click the picture to view the PicLit and see the other words I chose, visible here is only the first line.

VLE and IWB workshop training page

Here's a screenshot of some of the VLE course page I set up for the recent workshop.  It contained several links and interactive activities which I do hope the attendees will actually join in with.  (We didn't have time on the day to go into many of them).   I created the Wordsearch, 2 assignments (one with a linked resource to view, simple webquest style), edited the Tutor Guide and included a discussion forum, a chat and a simple feedback poll.    I also linked to a Padlet resources wall  http://padlet.com/wall/Whiteboardtips and a feedback wall.
Here's the page link:  http://learn.hace.org.uk/course/view.php?id=783

Unfortunately for my Whiteboard demonstrations and the Voki, the tutor PC I was using did not have Flash installed... So no pretty interactives.
